After skiing today we went to a nearby attraction called the Jigokudani Monkey Park where Japanese macaques, also known as snow monkeys, spend their days chilling out in an onsen up in the mountains. This is a behavior the monkeys have developed to be able to stay alive during the harsh and cold winters here in this area. Too stay warm they bathe in the naturally hot water that is around 42 degrees Celsius. They are so incredibly cute, especially the young ones that were playing around in the snow and snuggling in their mom’s lap while bathing.
