Som vanligt lyckades jag skjuta upp packnigen till sista sekunden natten innan avfärd och kom inte i säng förrän det nya dygnet inletts med råge. Innan världens bästa pappa skjutsade ut oss och all packning till Arlanda hann jag kasta mig på tunnelbanan för att fixa några sista minuten grejer inne i stan, bland annat ett par mer ordentliga trugor till stavarna för att matcha de enorma mängder snö som vi förväntar oss att finna i det beryktade pudermeckat Japan. Väl på flygplatsen strulade i princip allt – den incheckningsmaskin jag råkat välja vägrade att skriva ut några bagagetaggar till mig, damen i helpdesken hade total nollkoll på både regler kring skidbagage och vad en lavinryggsäck är för något. Tur att man är påläst själv och räknat med lite extra marginal för incheckning! Personalen i säkerhetskontrollen hade sedan ungefär lika bra koll som incheckningsdamen och såg riktigt förvirrad ut när jag informerade och förvarnade om att det nu kom fem personer med lavinryggsäckar med tillhörande patroner i… Men efter lite uppvisande av diverse utskrifter och förklarande av att jo man får visst flyga med den och ja vi har okej från flygbolaget så blev vi genomsläppta!
Totalt under hela flygresan på cirka 12 timmar som tog oss från Arlanda via Köpenhamn och sedan direkt vidare mot Tokyo så lyckades jag sova totalt EN HEL TIMME (!!) wow. Ansträngde mig verkligen och testade en rad olika kreativa sovställningar för att försöka få till någon form av sömn men tyvärr helt förgäves…
Väl framme på Tokyo Narita Flygplats lyckades vi skicka iväg våra skidfodral direkt till får första skidåkningsdestination Tenjin för strax under 2000 yen (ca 130 sek), hur smidigt som helst så nu slipper vi släpa på all skidutrustning på tåget när vi åker vidare efter att ha firat nyår här i Tokyo! Vi har nu precis checkat in på vårt boende och fått i oss lite mat så nu ligger de flesta i sin lilla ”kapsel” till krypin och tar en powernap innan vi ska ta och bege oss iväg för att utforska staden!
Åh och så märkte vi att det här i Tokyo finns färgglada dryckesautomater som den på bilden ÖVERALLT där man kan få både varma och kalla drycker och soppor på direkten!!
As usual when it comes to travel I managed to procrastinate the process of packing until the last minute the night before departure and didn’t get to bed until well after midnight. Before the best dad in this world gave us and all our gear a ride to Stockholm Arlanda airport I managed to rush in to town to fix a few last minute things, a pair of proper powder baskets to match the enormous amounts of snow that we expect to find in the famous powder Mecca of Japan. At the airport just about everything that possibly could made the check-in process unsmooth to say the least – the check-in automat of my choice refused to print any baggage tags for me and the lady at the helpdesk had no idea about the rules applying to ski luggage and had no idea what an avalanche backpack was. Luckily I was prepared and had done all the research needed in advance and calculated some extra margins for check-in times! The staff at the security control had about the equal knowledge as the check-in lady and looked pretty confused when I informed and gave them a heads-up that there were five avalanche backpacks with cartridges coming through… Although after some showing of various documents and explaining that yes you are allowed to fly with this and yes we have it confirmed from the airline we got let through!
During the flight that in approximately 12 hours took us via Copenhagen to Tokyo I managed to sleep for an ENTIRE HOUR (!!) wow. I really tried my best to get some proper sleep with various creative sleeping positions in my seat but unfortunately none of them turned out to work…
Once we arrived at Tokyo Narita Airport we managed to leave our ski bags with a delivery service company that will send our stuff to our first skiing destination Tenjin for just under 2000 yen (around 13 EURO / 16 USD). Incredibly smooth and nice since we now don’t have to carry all that gear on the train once we leave after celebrating New Years Eve here in Tokyo! Right now we just checked in at our hostel and had some food so now most people are taking a power nap before we’ll head into town to do some exploring!
Oh and we noticed that here in Tokyo there are colorful vending machines like the one in the picture EVERYWHERE where you can get both hot and cold bererages and soup instantly!!
